Borehole inventory, groundwater potential and water quality studies in Ayede Ekiti, Southwestern Nigeria

Abstract This study aims at determining the state of government provided boreholes, evaluating groundwater potential and quality assessment within Ayede Ekiti community. 12 Vertical Electrical Soundings (VES) were conducted using Schlumberger array in order to determine geoelectric layers fracture attributes. Also, water samples collected from area evaluate physicochemical characteristics groundwater. The revealed average values total depth static levels column boreholes be 18.77 m, 6.77 m 11.99 respectively. 70% are either abandoned, damaged or with evidence corrosion encrustation. Geophysical investigation weathered layer thickness ranging 1.3 34.7 two regimes 40–50 75–80 m. frequency curve types obtained shows 16.67%, 33.33%, 25%, 8.33%, 8.33% for AK, HA, KH, AA, QH HK respectively while fractured basement identified as aquifer unit. Results analysis unveiled that dominance cations Ca 2+ > Na + K Mg anions HCO 3 − Cl SO 4 2− . Three hydrochemical facies present CaHCO NaHCO CaCl 66.67%, 25% Wilcox plot suggests suitability irrigation purposes when compared World Health Organization standards. Despite good analyzed samples, problem this community is traceable inadequacy exploration, shallow consequent seasonal availability.
